Author Observations- Melanie Dickerson

I found Melanie Dickerson and her books last year when looking for some new Christian historical romances to read. These books have a different twist than any other historical romance I have read. Instead of being in the western and pioneer era, like Janette Oke and Lauraine Snelling, these books are set in medieval times.

However, not only are they set in the medieval era, most of Melanie's books are based off fairy tales such as Rapunzel, Snow White, the Pied Piper, the Goose Girl, Aladdin, Cinderella, Mulan, and others.

Christian elements and themes are woven throughout these stories, as characters read the Bible, pray, and hold church services. Each of the main characters goes through various trials and lessons that also help the reader to understand key elements of life. The real life examples of chivary, chastity, and other seemingly medieval behaviors are brought back to life in Melanie's characters.

I really enjoyed these books because unlike many modern romances, the characters get married at the end of the book, instead of the characters just falling in love and the book ending. Occasionally, Melanie does continue the story and give the reader more information about the characters and how their lives continue on.

I have had the privilege of reading her Medieval Fairy Tale Romance series, Dericott series, and Hagenheim series. Her other series, which I haven't read include the Regency Spies of London series and the Imperiled Young Widows series.

Unfortunately, it's been awhile since I've read these books, so I couldn't tell you which one my favorite was.

I can tell you, however, that I did feel that the history in these books wasn't very clear or accurate. I enjoyed the books very much, but only for their stories and not for the history. If you're looking for very historical romance novels, I would suggest that you look at Laura Frantz's books.

If any of you end up reading any of these, let me know!! I'd like to hear how you liked them!

Have a blessed day!!
